In a series of ads focused on electricity, the brand also unveiled the GV60 priority program for US consumers.
Imagine a new design convention for the future
The Genesis X Speedium Coupe was born from a “freestyle” design exercise based on the Genesis X concept. This initiative was led by Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis Chief Creative Officer and Automotive Person of the Year for 2022. It embodies the timeless Genesis design philosophy, Sporting Elegance, in a more progressive way.
The Speedium name is inspired by the Korean racetrack in Inje and the passion for motorsport inspired by the designers of Genesis. The name also embodies Genesis’ belief that the emotional value of driving will remain strong in the age of electricity. The addition of the word “Coupe” further enhances the driving pleasure through its aesthetic designs.
Genesis followed the principle of reductive design, or “less is more” for the concept car. The Genesis X Speedium Coupe is distinguished by its restrained elegance, clear lines and subtle curves.
The model challenges the status quo for a specific vehicle type. It’s not a traditional concept car that previews production line plans.
“This vehicle is the door-opening moment in Genesis’ journey towards designing the electric vehicles of the future,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis’ Chief Creative Officer. “This isn’t a show car – it’s a look at our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of electric vehicles, one that includes Genesis.”
At the front of the car, the distinctive Genesis Two Lines headlights have evolved into a full-width element that includes the shape of the crest resembling the Genesis Crest Grille. It was designed to carry the signature wing face of the electric age by fusing daytime running lights with low beam and high beam together. It bears an electric face that symbolizes Genesis’ transformation towards becoming an all-electric car brand with a range of six models by 2030.
From an overhead perspective, the hourglass image highlights the car’s passion and personality. The slim and sensual shape accentuates the wheel arches creating a powerful presence.
When viewed from the side, the parabolic line running from the front to the rear of the car maintains a certain tension in the design like any classic car. An intentional “anti-wedge” design culminates in a streamlined look that exudes understated elegance.
Meanwhile, the elliptical tail balances the profile for an optically adherent tension between the convex and concave surfaces of the stern. The V-shaped brake lights interrupt the rounded shape by producing the striking contrast that is one of the hallmarks of the Genesis.
“We give every design element room to breathe,” Donckerwolke said. “It’s not about making the design elements compete with each other, it’s about organizing the elements so that they complement and respect each other.”
The mineral emerald green shade of the concept is referred to as “Engy Green. “As expected of a car inspired by a Korean racetrack, the color includes the mountainous landscape where the track is located, complementing the image of a classic car that embodies dynamism, speed and timeless elegance.
