Hummer EV review, Lexus RZ yoke, Fisker battery warranty, Tesla advances: The week in reverse

Which EV Company Changed Its Manufacturing Plan – And The Country?

Which two automakers have agreed to develop the basis for “millions” of affordable electric cars?

This is our look back at the opposite week – here at green car reports—For the week ending April 8, 2022.

This week, the main event was something we attended the week before—but we can tell you about it for the first time this week: the first drive of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. Efficiency aside, we found this behemoth truck lived up to its billing and is something different than the Rivian R1T. It’s the electric truck fans, not the electric car fans.

Esla also reported some great news last weekend – a record number of deliveries in the first quarter of 2022, despite supply chain difficulties. This was the first quarter in which production from three continents was included in the first quarter, although its plant in China remained temporarily closed due to the Covid shutdown.

Car rental giant Hertz will soon offer Polestar EVs in the US, Europe and Australia. It plans to buy up to 65,000 vehicles from the brand, as it is also increasing its fleet of electric vehicles with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.

Lexus mocked the full reveal of its RZ 450h SUV in production form, on April 20. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that its joke included a power steering—perhaps based on Toyota’s development efforts with wire-steering technology, which could make it better than the Tesla system.

Fisker recently confirmed one of the best battery warranties in the industry on its upcoming Ocean EV—a 75% guarantee of original capacity for 10 years or 100,000 miles. In separate respects, this is better than a Tesla or a Rivian.

2022 New ET5

This week, President Biden and members of the administration met with auto industry leaders — including Tesla’s Elon Musk, Lucid’s Peter Rawlinson, GM’s Mary Barra, Ford’s Jim Farley, and other executives — to discuss electric vehicles and their charging. Interoperability and seamless user experience was one of the main points. President Biden also turned to the Defense Production Act last week to help support the supply chain for electric vehicles — and the rapid redevelopment of infrastructure needed for mining and materials. Will it help reduce US dependence on China?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that it is reviewing potentially defective batteries from LG Energy Solution, to ensure they are all retrieved. So far, the issue of fire concern has affected additional vehicles from General Motors, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Stellants and Volkswagen.
